Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Trend: 70s

I am running a bit behind on starting my Spring/Summer trend report this year, but I suppose it is better late than never! I thought I would get us started with possibly the biggest fashion trend for this Spring and Summer -- 1970s inspired clothing (Above: Milly; Marc Jacobs; Emilio Pucci; Derek Lam). It is time to trade in your skinny jeans for bell bottoms and to raid your mom's closet for headscarfs and psychedelic maxi dresses. The designers had all of the styles from the 70s covered ranging from hippy styles to 70s glam. I like this trend because it is something different from the 80s-inspired trend that we have been seeing so much of lately. Many of the trends that I will be posting within the next few weeks will revolve around this central theme as well. So break out the polyester and fringe!!! If you are "digging" this style, you may want to consider stopping by your local thrift store or snagging one of the 70s-inspired items below: ASOS knitted lace 2 in 1 dress for $71.72 on www.asos.com; ASOS techno "Boheme" printed jersey culotte for $26.90 on www.asos.com; BCBGMAXAZRIA chevron stripe maxi dress for $178 on www.bloomingdales.com; Citizens of Humanity "Angie" super flare jeans for $228 on www.anthropologie.com; Kimono wing blouse for $128 on www.anthropologie.com; Fringe trimmed poncho for $17.80 on www.forever21.com; Parker tie front long dress for $270 on www.bloomingdales.com; Divine Rights of Denim bell bottom jeans for $24.80 on www.forever21.com; Feather trim necklace for $7.80 on www.forever21.com; Free People "Oh L'amour" crochet sweater vest for $128 on www.bloomingdales.com; Ella Moss "Kayla" applique top for $94 on www.bloomingdales.com; Paige "Roxley" high waist trousers for $179 on www.anthropologie.com; Free People convertible crochet halter top for $128 on www.bloomingdales.com; Deena & Ozzy felt hat for $34 on www.urbanoutfitters.com; ASOS pleated swing one sleeve dress for $71.72 on www.asos.com.
